Abstract
In order to facilitate a smooth transition into the University, UCLA’s Academic Advancement Program hosts a Freshman Summer Program that targets non-traditional and first-generation college students from historically underserved communities. Although FSP is an extremely successful program, it can only accommodate 200 incoming Freshman a year. In order to better serve an ever-increasing population of new AAP students, AAP Counseling has developed and implemented a successful workshop series designed to bridge the academic gap between the high school and college curriculums. We continue to offer these workshops throughout the academic year, each of the five aimed at providing students with the various skills and practical knowledge that will foster their academic success. This presentation will focus on the structure, goals, and outcomes of this workshop series. These collaborative workshops emphasize the role that campus partners play and they give students a better understanding of how the University works, as well as access to campus resources.
