Bridging the Gap Between Undergraduate and Graduate Students

Abstract

Outside of the TA/undergraduate relationship there is often little contact between undergraduate and graduate students.  At a large research university the potential mentoring relationship between these two groups often goes untapped.  This workshop will focus on the College Academic Mentoring Program which seeks to bridge this gap between undergraduate and graduate students.  This unique program employs 23 graduate students from diverse academic disciplines to advise primarily first and second year students as well as new transfers.  They are specially trained to helpstudents with program planning, course selection, and to give guidance in the process of choosing a major and planning for graduate and/or professional school.  Through the program the graduate students are offered full tuition remission and are paid hourly.  Come find out more about the program and how something like this could be implemented on your campus.
