Abstract
International education is one of the largest growing areas in universities across the United States and globally today. Due to the high demand, in Fall 2009 UCI Extension established University Programs, which is part of the International Programs, for both undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking international students. The program provides qualified international high-school and college graduates essential skills to help them succeed academically, culturally, and linguistically as the students pursue their academic goals in the U.S. In this workshop, you will be presented with the areas that have been identified as most helpful for orienting international students who just arrived to this country for their undergraduate and graduate studies. You will learn practical tips and recommendations based on our experience as academic counselors for delivering messages and making our advising effective. You will also learn about the additional academic support strategies, such as peer advising and advisor tutoring, to help students in their challenging classes.
